Tin Lid
Before it was known as disc golf, disc golf was reffered to as: "Tin Lid Golf", describing an earlier version of the game whilst it was played amongst children, less seriously than it is today
Locations
Centralized mainly in the U.S., 75% of all disc golf courses are here in the states, with another 10% coming from finland and Canada, the other 15 being spread across the rest of the world.
National Day
August 1st is recognized as National Disc Golf day, official instated in 2016.
Fast Growing
From 2014-2019, Disc golf was the fourth fastest growing sport in the entire United States.
World Record
A man named Michael Sale set the record for the most Disc Golf holes played in the course of 24 hours, at a whopping 2,900.
Disc stability
The technology used in lots of discs, has an outer rim made of heavier material than what is used on the inner core. This adds more spin to the disc, making the disc more stable and icnreasing the probability that your throw will go farther.
Things you might not know
Here are a few helpful tips and tricks to know about Disc Golf that will help you learn to play in the most professional way possible.
Run-up
Players can take a run up on their first throw, and on throws considered fairway throws. In other cases you are not allowed a run up and you will want to throw the disc beginning from below the waist, or by twisting to the side and extending back across your body.
Out of Bounds
Some places in a disc golf course are considered out of bounds and if your disc lands there while playing by the rules, the disc is considered lost, and play proceeds. You recieve one penalty throw and must begin again from the tee pad.
Completion
You have completed the hole when the disc lands in the basket, unfortunetly landing on top of the basket is not considered in, and you will find it happening more often than you might suppose.
Tee-pad
When throwing from the tee, your feet cannot go past the end of the pad as long as you are still holding on to the disc.
